​Preschool Developmental Assessment

Purpose

To provide a comprehensive developmental assessment for young children. It helps
parents understand their child's abilities and developmental profile, and provides
recommendations for follow-up support.

Age

18 months to 5 years 11 months

Assessment Scope

Mainly focuses on a child’s overall development, including:

1. Cognitive ability

2. Preliminary observation of other developmental areas, such as fine motor and language skills

3. Observation of social and emotional behaviour

4. Assessment of signs of developmental delay, ADHD and autism spectrum disorder.

5. Professional consultation and recommendations based on the child’s current developmental status

Assessment Process

The assessment includes the following parts:

1. Pre-assessment interview with parents.

2. Assessment and observation of the child, including preschool cognitive/developmental assessment and other relevant assessments or behavioural rating scales.

3. Post-assessment parent interview to explain the results and provide recommendations for follow-up and training directions.

4. If the assessment results meet the referral criteria, the psychologist will complete Form 2 for the parents. This can be used to apply for government preschool rehabilitation
services.

The assessment session includes:

  • Assessment and explanation of results: approximately 60 minutes.

  • Assessment report: please enquire with the centre for details.

  • This service is provided by a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist.

  • The assessment report will be ready within 10-14 working days. Parents will be invited to the centre for a report explanation. This applies to services provided by the clinical
    psychologist only.

  • This arrangement applies to services provided by the clinical psychologist only.
